Default Old confused person with Thunderbolt 3....

My Gigabyte mother board is compatible with Thunderbolt 3, and the latest drivers.
I have one USB-C port on the rear IO plate, and if I fit an extra box on the front (DVD drive size), it will give me an extra USB-C port and some more USB 3 ports.

I have never used it, but I believe that a cable with the USB-C on one and and a Display Port on the other, I could then run my monitor on it, or some other device with a different connector on it.

From a quick search here in the UK, I only seem to find cables for Apple products, and I have none, and nor do I want any.....

Anyone any advice/help/tips/abuse for me ?

The Type C connector actually supersedes the DisplayPort connector.

But your monitor already has display port, right?

The Thunderbolt 3 protocol is standardized, so if it says it's for Mac, it'll work with any other Thunderbolt 3.

    Example: http://a.co/d/g5VJMAV

Note how it says "MacBook Pro 2015/2016, ChromeBook Pixel ..."

They expect people with PCs to know Thunderbolt is Thunderbolt and people with Macs and Chromebooks to not know.

Why thanks Johnny, very informative, as I know sod all about Apple products, and thanks for the link, so that I know what I am looking for....
Yep, my Dell monitor has ports for HDMI and DisPlay ports, and forget what else without having to turn the thing upside down to look for more goodies...

    Thanks again...

Oh, any the way, my 'new' HX850i is still going strong since July 2017 when I installed it, after removing the RM550X which I keep for a spare..just in case.

But, now and again the PC won't boot up, and get a black screen and no led 'codes' displayed either, and won't shut down to try again either by 'reset' or holding down the power button.

To fix it, I just turn off the PSU at the back, wait about 5 seconds, then switch on again and it boots up just fine.

Probably my darn Gigabyte motherboard up to it's old tricks....

I might just buy one from Amazon UK.......which at first glance is a bit more expensive that in the US of A......

Anyway, thanks for all your help in the past......and now.
