    Arrow NZXT E500 Review

    It's time to take another look at NZXT's new E series of 80 Plus Gold power supplies. Today, we'll look at the 500 watt model, which offers all the same features we saw in the 850 watt model, just at a much lower power output.

    I actually don't mind paying extra $40 for a power meter that takes up no space and requires no effort to set up. Is it accurate?

    Custom made capacitors... might make for a challenging repair.

    You don't get power draw from the mains in the CAM software at all, and the DC side of it is split between the 3.3V/5V and 12V rails with no data for the standby rail. As power meters go, you'd want more functionality than that if you had to pay $40 more.

    Here in Germany decent pwoermeter for home use are 10-20 EUR. They are much more precise than PSU sensors/software. On top you can use them for checking standby powerdraw and connect them to other electrical appliances. For me, this software thing is usually not worth the extra cost.

    Custom as in 3300µF/16V Types with 10mm diametre.
    And there are none right now for you to buy...

    But they are everywhere in PSU right now...


    And if the unit fails, its probably not the Caps that do but the +5VSB Chip or other stuff gone wrong...

    in the E850 it is not accurate enough. And the corresponding circuit doesn't measure AC, but only DC.

    @Philip the decent power meters start from 1k and not just 20-30 euros. Those cheapo ones besides highly inaccurate, especially at light and very high loads, have also very slow polling rates so they are practically useless for measuring a PSU under real life conditions (or with fast loads at least). However measuring the DC Watts is quite easy and affordable, so I really wonder why it is so hard for the manufacturers to provided accurate DC readings at least.
