    Default Western Digital Blue 1 TB hard disk: SMART says imminent failure, what i do?

    Severe problem has happen yesterday and today, my freaking WD Blue 1 TB (i say freaking beacause this is the second WD Blue that i change beacause after 1-2 years die with no reasons), seems again near the death:

    2 SMART Software on 3 says that my HDD is imminent to failure, the problem is: a high RAW Value of End-To-End Error.

    Which is 920. For Now, i have changed the SATA cable and i have choosed another SATA port but Windows has freeze for 5-6 times (all PC Freeze, Windows say me that he can't access anymore to the drive) but with a reboot all return fine.

    So i change again the SATA port and now seems to go fine. For now i do a backup, but what the hell is happen here?

    it's my motherboard or PSU that slowly kill my PSU? (my SSD works fine like a swiss clock) or is this dammit WD?

    And with WD Data Life Diagnostic if i run a test he says "FAIL" with again SMART Error.

    Change the HDD is not a big problem (i found a Toshiba 1 TB DT01ACA100 for only 30 euros), but i don't want to waste money and see that HDD is not the problem but other..so i would want to have more opinions on this

    I have been known to remove the hard drive circuit board and clean the connecting pad with an eraser.

    Do it. initially seems to work but now seems to doesn't work: the game has crash exactly when i load a save and the Windows Event Viewer is full of errors regards the hard disk (like can't load paging, some data are lost, smart error..)

    yes, which model? Seagate Barracuda 1 TB or the Toshiba DT10 1 TB? my priority is reliability over perofrmance and i have a low budget (max 40 euros)

    The Seagate FireCuda Solid State Hybrid Drive (1TB or 2TB); not much more expensive than a normal drive, but faster.

    https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireC...s=Seagate+SSHD
    $70 for the 1TB model

    Reliability (and speed) comes from the solid state cache which reduces disk usage.

    I have the 2TB model, and am very happy with it; normally I prefer Western Digital, but they stopped making SSHD units.

    You had the torx keys to remove the hard drive circuit board?

    I tend to put a little silicone oil on the contacts after cleaning them to avoid future corrosion.

    I am also a bit foolish, purchasing hard drives second hand and then testing for bad sectors before using them.

    End-to-end error can mean... lots of things, depending on the drive, and really could stand to be better defined. But since you are definitely having problems, it's likely time to replace the drive.

    Most modern hard drives, unless you get a bad model, are fairly similar in reliability. Seagate did have some bad models fairly recently, and these are the ones to avoid:
    * ST750DM003
    * ST1000DM003/4
    * ST1500DM003
    * ST2000DM001/2
    * ST3000DM001/2

    Other models and brands are generally fine.

    Are these the ones with the firmware issue?
