Default Cooler Master had it right all along!

Because they have a PSU that's made in Japan, it's not subject to the new 25% tariffs.

Later this year, it will be actually CHEAPER to buy their MIJ PSU than any equivalent unit made in China!

    Thanks Trump!

What would it take to bring production back to the US?

    More than 25% price difference.

Yep. You would need fully automated lines in order for it to be profitable. And while that doesn't help the job base for many people, you could at least spare yourself from SOME (not all) tarriffs. I say "some" because there's also some of the "parts within the parts" that get tariffed as well. So as soon as you use a Chinese made diode or a Chinese cap or a Chinese made fan... you pay a tariff.

I've had some really good experiences with American made product in my life.

The American made Whirlpool washer and dryer at the hotel I stay at in Taipei is fantastic. Front load too. Which is ironic for me because I swore off front load washers because of the horrible experiences I had with my German made Kenmores (probably made by Bosch?).

And our Hyundai Santa Fe from Georgia is fantastic. Nice car. Nice fit and finish. Reliable. WAAAAAAY better than the German made Bora Variant we had before.

Hmm... Maybe I'm only making the case that German products suck. Not so sure of myself now.

How about production in Mexico? Bring the parts in from China without tariffs, use rather cheap labor and ship them via Nafta to the US...

Well.. We'll have to see how this NAFTA deal goes over.

BTW: I have a coworker that lost three team members in a shooting because they were in Mexico managing a case project. That doesn't give me warm fuzzies about working in Mexico.

Yeah, I'm glad I work for EU company so this won't be on the table for us.

My Honda Civic was made in North America, except the engine and gearbox which came from Japan.

Great car, except both door windows came out of their rails, and I had to open up the doors and adjust things.
