750W is enough if you don't overclock the graphics card or just do a small overclock. But if you also gonna push the graphics card then go for a high end 850W power supply.

Also go for a PSU with two EPS connectors both on their own cable and a motherboard with two EPS connectors.

After doing some reseach I found another way to estimate power

I rounded up the numbers to make sure it was enough, but idk if having RAM at certain frequency or voltage, or having one model or another of HDD affects the result too much, I just took the readings from similar hardware on tomshardware or anandtech

i7 6950X = 245W

1080 ti poseidon = 395W

WD gold hard drive = 10W

970 EVO = 10W

128GB RAM = 55W

This gives me 715W but I haven't added the motherboard, RGB, etc WHAT DO YOU THINK

There are some modules that require that much power, but they also have some serious heatsink - RDRAM in the mid 90s and FB-DIMMs from mid 2000s/LGA771 Core 2 Duo based ones...

Because besides CPU and GPU there isn't much that consumes power.
And I use a Ryzen 7/1700X and _TWO_ Radeon HD7970 and can still use a 550W PSU for that.

OC is not something you'd do in any area!
There are application where you must never even think about overclocking!
And the 128GiB RAM seems to point in that direction.

The 128GiB points to some usage where Stability is king.
But OC is something you only do where stability is irrelevant and if a crash happens, nothing is lost...

Thanks for the reply, so you say that I shouldn't worry about the other components in the rig aside from the CPU and the GPU because those are the ones that draw the most power and if the power supply has enough room on the 12V rail chances are it has enough power on the other rails for the components as well?


yeah I know threadripper gives you more cores for the price buy Intel does best if you want to play at high framerates

The PC is primarily for GAMING but, although I wanted to get into live streamming as well hence I picked up better CPU and RAM. Also the 8 slots filled up with RGB ram look gorgeous

As I see it there's nothing wrong with overclocking provided you do it correctly.

But considering how much power that sucker draws I think I'll go with the 6800K and call it a day, gaming performance on other chips don't convince me at all

Gaming at what resoulution? Because intel has an advantage only in CPU limited situations and even then not particularly much.
128GB of ram will probably limit your OC and the ram speed, because of the additional strain on integrated memory controller.
Of course none of the above matters if you have decided to got with intel&the looks.
