    Default SMPS car battery chargers

Anyone reviewed any SMPS car battery chargers?

I have one and the fan failed almost immediately; rather than send it back I opened it up and oiled it.

    That's not a bad idea.

I could do that review since there's no conflict of interest with Corsair.

It's only a matter of time...

Yes! Please do, it'd be great to have a review from you again, even if it's not a Computer SMPS

The demands are rather different from computer power supplies as battery chargers are not normally run 8 hrs a day every day. Efficiency is probably not a big issue nor hold up time, but the ability to tolerate overload abuse probably is, as well as dropping into float mode; I wonder if the power factor regulations apply to such units. Since one is supposedly only producing a single voltage, there is no problem with 'group' regulation or the need for so called 'DC to DC' conversion. There probably isn't much need for a lot of secondary capacitance given that the battery itself will smooth the output and probably doesn't object to some ripple.

Mine sits around most of the time, and now I worry how the capacitors are standing up to not being energized. Perhaps the most annoying 'smart feature' is refusing to charge batteries with too low a voltage.
