    Default Surge protection

A lot of surge protection include MOVs to absorb the surge, but often left out is the common mode choke that reflects the pulse back out and is also used in switched mode power supplies. On the picture of a cheap power supply one can clearly see it left out (bottom right)

Anyone know which surge protectors include a common mode choke?

I think common mode chokes are only used in power supplies to reduce HF noise from entering your homes power system from said power supply.

Well, a fast surge pulse is all high frequency

Yeah but i'm not sure how well it would hold up to that.

Good point; now I think (but am not sure) that one of the coils of this tripplite surge protector circuit may be a common mode choke; they look like they could handle a lot given that they only reflect the pulse and not absorb it.

Of course my reason for coming here is to learn.

It's hard to tell if any of them are common mode chokes, maybe those 'toroidal balanced chokes' could be common mode chokes but like i said, it's hard to tell.
It looks like (based off of the image) most of the chokes are only there to reduce noise.

I though it was kinda neat; found another picture where top left might be a common mode choke

That does appear to be a common mode choke but it may only be there to reduce noise. (they don't mention anywhere about it reflecting pulses)
