    Default 12V load for burn-in testing

    I have been trying to think of the best way to load a power supply for testing and was wondering if anyone tried using a 12V 120W immersion heater? (as low as $2.10 on ebay)

    No, but what would you do with all the steam?

    I thought about bulbs, but bulbs are very inefficient (~3%) so very little of the energy goes into light. A 12V heater might be best.

    Bulbs are a great way. Cheap and easy to implement.

    A very good point, and I have old car headlight bulbs (HB2/H4, 9003) where the low beam has burnt out, but the high beam is still in great shape; 60W each. Using a good bulb gives one a 115W load for each bulb. 100/90W versions also exist ($1.70 each on ebay) or just plain H7-100W for $1.00 each

    24 pin extensions are less than $2 on ebay; at less than $2 for the whole project I could not resist, with one bulb on each of the 12V lines and the bulbs sitting in free air; no fan to fail.
