Hello there,
I have made another post last year for another build and people have been really helpful. Build worked well but someone moved in at work and I had to give it up. I am making a new build this time around, after fighting along with a potato of a pc, and would love some PSU recommendations from the more experienced people as some googling and review reading made my head spin.
Build is: 7820x oc'd at 4.8ghz (silicon lottery, seems to be drawring around 230watts max at this oc from user reviews), 1080ti, 64gb ram and 3-4 hard drives, mix of sata and nvme. I know x299 requires a ridiculous amount of power but I was thinking that a 850w solution would be more than enough, even If I decide to step up to a 10/12 core next year. This is an active workstation for me and any passive tasks that would require multiple gpu's (ML tasks) would be offloaded to a different machine so I am not planning on going for more than 1 gpu in any case but I would like to leave some headroom if things change.
The seasonic focus plus gold 850w seems decent but I am worried about the fan noise I read about in the review. Also not sure if gold or platinum would be a better choice like a seasonic prime platinum 850w/EVGA P2 850W or Corsair HX850. If power efficiency on the electrical bill is the only difference between those 2 I am not sure the extra cost is worth it, unless there are performance benefits (?).
Thank you everyone, for your time reading this![]()
