Corsair has often used custom designs and they're not the only company to do that. Your bigger PSU companies often do that. They just normally reserve that kind of decision for the high end market.

Yes and its based on a different Controll Chip than the other CWT Plattforms.
Infineon for the Corsair Plattforms and the CM6900 for the CWT GPS varants (like GPU Bitfenix uses).

Platform, yes. But it needs some tweaking to be as good as current RMx. But knowing CWT, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to roll those improvements into everyone else's products.

There are a few companies that are large enough to have their own engineering team. But it's the exception and not the norm. Most PSU companies only have one engineer... or not even that. Just a product manager.

How big is the Corsair Engineering team? being that it has its own 'platform'

For PSUs specifically: Two in the U.S., one in Taiwan and one in China. About to be two in Taiwan. That's for R&D. That doesn't include validations and engineering technicians.
