German "Sachmängelhaftung" requires proof the product was faulty from beginning. Some resellers turn down any RMA after 6 month unless you provide expert assessment. Since expert assessment is expensive and there is no refund for the cost it makes not much sense to do this for regular consumer goods. If you are sure product was faulty from the begin there is annother way: Sue the reseller. Court will ask for expert assessment. Once court rules, cost for the expert assessment will be part of total legal cost so the party loosing has to bear it.

Long story short: Only nice resellers help you haver 6 months without a court order.

Ok. But that's the reseller. In the U.S., you're lucky to find a reseller take something back beyond 30 days.

The MANUFACTURER is the one that has to honor the warranty.

In Germany there is no manufacturerer warranty required by law. You're allowed to sell products without any warranty B2B, at least if you find customers stupid enough to buy product without any warranty. Many brands here don't offer direct customer service, so if the product fails you have to return it to the reseller even if it's post 6 months. If the resellers is too lazy to help or charges 50 Euro service charge you're fucked if the is no direct contact.

So Germany doesn't have to adhere to EU consumer laws? Was there another "Brexit" I wasn't aware of?

The shop is always the one that gives you warranty in the EU. The shop also should give you at least 2 years warranty. If a shop doesn't want to help you can always point them to that EU law.

I wasn't aware of any warranty requirement by manufacturers in the EU.

Only the Warranty Requirements by the dealer are known to me...
Though that might force manufacturers to go for 24 Months of warranty or more.

Because of the situation in Germany, the online stores are very very powerful.
If they don't like something, they just don't list you and don't sell any of your products, so you loose Money...

Jo, I think you're mixing up dealers mandatory warranty (6+18 months) and manufacturer warranty.

As a manufacturer, I'm required to give my product a 2 year warranty minimum in the E.U.

Was like this at every manufacturer I've worked at.

Along the same lines as the law that says there can't be such a thing as "lifetime warranty" and that any claim of "lifetime" must equate to a 10 year warranty.

You're not required by law to give 2 years warranty as a manufacturer in Germany. If you ssell any products directly to consumers, for example via your website, you have to offer 6+18 months "warranty". Also if you sell without any warranty it might be hard to find resellers and SIs whcih are willing to sell your product to consumers. Don't forget, the reseller needs to offer 6+18 months. If your product fails within 6 months and your brand does not offer any warranty the reseller will loose money. So you're not required by law, but by industry standard.

Trust me, I'm from here and I did quite good in my legal exam during business administration studies. Also my sis is a lawyer. I know what I'm talking about.
