    Well the TX550M isn't perfect, but clearly better than the Xilence quality wise. I don't understand how Nico could give the Xilence the recommendation. Smells like Germans recommending German power supplies.

    Hm, a bit better voltage regulation, better holdup time, higher efficiency, lower power consumption @ ErP Lot 6 test and last but not least:

    Fan RPM minimum ~400rpm for the Xilence, ~800rpm for the Corsair, maximum is 1200rpm for the Xilence, ~1600rpm for the Corsair.
    And we are talking about 120mm for the Xilence and 135/140mm for the corsair...

    I think that might be the most important issue with the TX550M:
    Mit Schwachlast hörbar und nahe der Volllast laut
    Why does the fan of the TX-M spin that high??

    The TXM serie is a bit on the loud side. But still. Better a quality power supply with some noise then a more silent Xilence which lacks the quality part.

    Xilence also requires registration for warranty (unless my German is awful) so that seems like a real downside to your average consumer.

    Not sure if that is a real downside. What do you have to do to register your product? Is it just filling an online form with your name address, and product ID for Xilence? If so, then it's not hard at all.

    You would be (or maybe not) surprised to find the number of end users who do not register their products.

    Back in the 8800 GT / 9800 GT days I know quite a few folks who missed out on Lifetime warranties with EVGA and XFX for this reason. Even when the EVGA cards had a slip of paper in the box on the top which said to register your product.

    Because it's a very elementary thermistor and DC output design. It's like cave man fan control. Start up voltage is too high for that fan (Hong Hua with "low (electrical) noise IC). Next gen will be much better now that I work in R&D.

    This one point I definitely agree with Nico on. TX-M could be quieter.

    Low acoustic noise is very important for German customers. If they can choose between lower acoustic noise and longer hold up time they will go for lower acoustic noise, for example. Our power grid is extremely stable. Many Germans would also prefer a more silent PSU over a PS with lower ripple, if ripple still is in specs.

    I had no idea Xilence had a series with a high-end platform like that, looks very nice.
