    Default PSU without clicking sound?

I recently upgraded to a CORSAIR RM750i from a CORSAIR 750TX for the upgraded power efficiency and modular cables. I soon noticed a "clicking sound" right after I would turn my computer on or resume it from sleep (https://www.dropbox.com/s/pl5gpd51kb...noise.mp4?dl=0). After some more research it appears to be normal and is due to a relay within the PSU. Wanted to confirm what I am hearing is OK and not a busted fan/motor.

With that, are there any PSU's that don't click upon startup/shutdown? I enjoy my silence

    Thanks!

There are almost no good PSU without Relays anymore.
    It's a sign of quality.

Because with a Relay you get higher efficiency with lower inrush current. So it's a very good thing.

But why would you switch your rig on and off multiple times? Do you want to destroy it?

    Thanks for the reply.

How come some "click" while others don't? Seems to be hit or miss on whether yours will or not. A friend of mine has the RM850i and his doesn't click on startup.

I put my rig to sleep when I am not using it and whenever it resumes from sleep I hear the "click" upon startup.

RMi and RMx don't have a relay for inrush protection, new HX and HXi series do.

So should I still have a "click" when I turn on my rig?

Yes you should. And with relay you have higher efficiency because no loss from NTC.

Well if you have a RM750i then no. Or Corsair changed something with the RM750i.

I can always extend your RMA return/exchange duration. Please send me a PM with your ticket # and I will advise our RMA dept to give you an extension. What I would like to do is get that unit back here in HQ for evaluation so we can find out what's causing the click.

Based on more research and input from various forum members, I decided to keep the original PSU since it seems to just be a relay clicking. Thanks for the help everyone!
