Thumbs down Newegg Eggxpert Review Fakery

I noticed on all the new CORSAIR TX-M Series PSU's on Newegg, there are paid for reviews, where the reviewers pretend to have owned the product. Newegg is calling these reviewers "EggXperts".

Every single Eggxpert review on these PSU's is a glowing 5/5.

It seems unlikely that 14 reviewers rated 3 different PSU'd 5/5.

I also notice that on the ENERMAX ETL1000EWT-M 1000W, there are 2 reviews. Both by "Paul P.", who mentions that: "I had a nice incentive from newegg............."

I know this was going to happen, but this is just so blatant.

    No more Newegg for me.

If you take Newegg reviews seriously the problem lies with you.

In Spain that would be a top quality review.

Well, to be clear and fair,

The incentives are discounts based on participation...answering customer questions and displaying a reasonable familiarity///competency.

At least that is the way I recall the process when I was actively building some years ago.

Newegg is not paying for reviews, positive or negative.

They are supporting a customer based mutual support program.

If you look at the EVGA forum, they have similar "incentives" for active participation...answering other forum members questions.

Good luck daring to make a complaint on the APPLE FORUM.

If you base you buying decisions on this single metric(the quality of an online forum and those on it)...well...just good luck in general.

eggxpert will receive all sample free and provide their review on time but newegg won't force you to give 5/5, an incentive to courage you to share experience should be fair

Seems to OP grossly misunderstands Newegg's program. Seems like everyone has properly chimed in. Now it's my turn.

The reviews aren't fake. They're done by real people to review real product.

    The reviewers aren't paid.

The reviewers aren't expected to give glowing reviews. Just honest reviews.

Newegg's rating system is a double edged sword. Highly rated products sell well, but products with no reviews don't sell at all. Encouraging "experts" to review products with discounts just gives a product some sort of end user history as opposed to expecting users to buy products on "blind faith".

Just like "the real world", EggXpert reviews can cover the full gamut. Take the Corsair VS Series, for example. It's proof positive that these reviews aren't coersed in any way.

Brian M's review was totally subjective. It worked flawless for him, but because HE didn't understand the market segment (this guy an MBA or something?), he only gave it 3 eggs.

Brandon H. didn't like that the cables aren't all black like the higher end units.

Mr. L doesn't like single +12V rail (Stefan, is that you?!!).

On the VS500, Matthew C. gave ONE EGG! Just ONE EGG!!! Sounds like a fake review to me (not).

    Naa, too much effort...

I'd rather solder on some Power Supplys or play SWTOR, Final Fantasy 14 or Guild Wars II. Or other, mostly japanese made, Games...

For example I made the best EVGA GS550/650 there is out there ;-)
