Sorry, didn't notice this thread earlier. But Jon, you may want to double check and take a closer look at that Globe fan again. From the photo you took, its bearing appears similar to the FDB fan we have (shinny). It should have that signature FDB "herringbone groove" which is hard to see with naked eyes.

We took apart our own PSU fans to show that they are not just sticker swaps despite having the same model name:

We broke the fans to get to the hubs, here you can see the bearings are indeed different (FDB on the left with more shinny, polished metal, sleeve on the right with duller-looking metal):

At this point, we had to use DSLR camera to get better looks at the bearings:

Sleeve bearing - you can clearly see there are no grooves on the inside

FDB - by zooming very closely on a DSLR shot, you can clearly see "herringbone grooves" on the inside

Jon do you have some more pictures, uploaded somewhere else? The forum upload has to much compression.

I am seriously thinking to do something about fans, but the cost is crazy high!!! The corresponding equipment is even more costy compared to Chromas.. But cost was never a show stopper for me, will search for used machines.

What type of equipment you're talking?

SilverStone, I can confirm your story. Cracked a fan from Leadex III open and found similar differences to regular sleeve bearing. If the crowd here is still interested I can also show the pictures.

I don't have the EVGA PSU anymore. But I can confirm SilverStone's findings. I took apart a different Globe fan claiming to be FDB and it did have the herring bone pattern. The EVGA one did not.

Here a picture of an FDB that I had taken:

So, apparently they use the same parts as a sleeve bearing fan, but change out the actual "bearing".

I think I'm actually starting to like rifle bearing better. Here's a (shitty) picture of one of those:

I think you meant Leadex II.
