Question Looking for power affordable power supply with "silent mode"

    TL;DR at bottom

I currently have a SS-660XP which has a toggle switch on the back of the power supply that turns the fan off until it is needed, it almost never activates.

I need a power supply with a similar feature, where the fan is off until needed, or fanless if an affordable one is available.

I was looking at purchasing a Seasonic S12 II Bronze 520W @$45 from amazon.

    http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=185

From the product page I found it has something called S2FC which is a variable speed fan managed by the PSU's internals but I wasn't able to determine if it ever goes into a fully off state which is what I'm after. I contacted seasonic but wasn't able to get any useful information from the CSR.

Side note: The room that the computer will be in is near silent so even a very quiet fan is noticeable, especially if it has an unpleasant sound profile.

Side note: The power supply will probably never draw over 125w as there is no GPU

    TL;DR
Ultimately my question is, does anyone know if the S2FC feature has an off state?

Or does anyone have an affordable power supply to recommend that has a fan off state mode?

    Corsair RM550x / EVGA SuperNOVA G3 550

If you'll never pass the 125W DC, you may also look at the Silverstone SST-ST30SF V1.0 SFX unit.

I got a SILVERSTONE ST50F-ESB 500W a week or two back that has the same advertised line

"Silent running 120mm fan with 18dBA"

The the 300W SFX one you recommended has

"Silent running 80mm fan with 18dBA minimum"

The sound profile is unpleasant, a small ...ticking is overstating it, but it's annoying, on my ST50F and mine doesn't have a off state, is that the difference between (ST30SF) and (ST30SF-V2)? The (ST30SF) has an off state and the v2 doesn't?

Just being extra cautious apologies for the additional questions, I might end up opting for the EVGA one in case I ever want to add a dGPU. It also clearly advertises what I'm after. http://i.imgur.com/tugdT3Y.png

Do you happen to know how the S2FC feature works for the seasonic?

I appreciate your help very much,
    Thank you.

Exactly, as also clearly stated onto the Silverstone website.

From a user's standpoint it's just a marketing gimnick: it's the standard, long proven (it's here since at least the last 15 years), thermally driven fan controller (i.e. the fan just ramps up or down according to the temperature albeit following a custom curve like this).
The Seasonic fan controller with the "off state" is called S3FC, often referred here as "hybrid" or "semi-passive" fan controller.

The three PSUs I pointed you out are the least expensive units with such a "hybrid" or "semi-passive" fan controller I was able to recall: usually the Corsair fan stays off up to 50% of rated power, the EVGA one up to 20%, the small Silverstone up to 40%, so more probably that not with a 125W DC you'll never see those fans to spin.

About the discrete graphics option, it mostly depends of WHICH graphics.

I have a TruePower New 750W, built by Seasonic. It does not have a hybrid fan (switch). When it idles the fans runs so slowly you cannot hear it at all. If you are looking for a silent PSU and you rarely push it, there is no need for a hybrid system, IMO. Just poll users about running an x PSU at low output and ask if you can hear the fan.
