One of my relatives PC stopped POSTing recently, i built it so i offered to see what went wrong.
Its using a AMD FM2 5400K APU and its being powered by a Corsair VS450.
I actually just put that PSU in a few months ago after the previous one (ThermalTake litepower) blew a fuse but wasnt repairable.
So the place he stays is likely getting power surges i think.
Anyway i started it up to check the rails with my multimeter and im getting 12.2V on the +12V and 5.1V on the +5V rail. Seemed good, its still fairly new so i didnt bother ESR checking the caps, visually they all seem good.
Sometimes the system POSTs and works but the main CPU VRM mosfets and chokes gets extremely hot, id say over 80C maybe more. Then after running like that for a few seconds if you shut it down and try start it up again just black screens.
Currently i suspect the mainboard, but the HDD is dead as well, which got me thinking if both the mainboard and HDD died at the same time its possibly still PSU related.
Im a bit worried plugging this PSU into a new board without more testing, but the only equipment i have is a DMM and ESR meter. Any suggestions on what to do ?
