    Default First build questions

Is overclocking worth it for a beginner build or should I start with a non K build. I was thinking about doing a non K build since I have no experience in doing it. This is kinda what I have in mind below but not set in stone till monday when I can start ordering parts.

Overclocking isn't that difficult, at least to usually, reasonable levels.
It's questionable for the relevant added costs (mobo, heatsink, cpu) and its effectiveness.
OTOH a K CPU or a Z mobo have an higher re-selling value, if that matters.

With reference to your list, the 7200rpm drive is what I don't like: unless it's used as a scratch disk for media editing it's rather pointless, performance wise, as a data disk it's likely a bit small, and it's noticeable noisier than a 5400rpm Blue.

Also the difference between a K and non-K is like $15. Just get the 7600K, you don't have to overclock but you'll have the option if you decide to do so.

He should need then a Z270 board, not a H270 one ($50 more if it's of the same series, so $65 more total).

I like your build. If you are not overclocking you can save even more by using the stock cooler, unless you want less noise.

The only time I found overclocking useful is when performance was inadequate on a cheap CPU or GPU. It was nice to get extra performance while paying less for a CPU with lower base clock.

Since Intel charges you more and you need to get the top CPU, to me at least, it's not worth it.
