The build quality is "just not good" (quoted) and it missed 80 Plus Gold. But because it passes the load tests with flying colors, it gets a Pass AND a Silver Award.
Hmmm....
And while I agree with the sentiment that "there are no immediate data driven reasons why the DQ550ST isn't a very good unit from a strictly value standpoint today", other units and customer sentiment in general is that if it has Chinese caps, "rather small heatsinks" then it's not such a good value after all.
Bizarre: they gave an award to a 50 bucks unit... something we talked just a few days ago.

As for $50 PSUs, we've come quite a long way, baby:

I really like this platform from CWT, it is and looks dirt cheap and the performance is more then decent. But if I was Deepcool I would make some small changes. I would use use some bigger heatsink, some better caps, bigger primary cap and give it a rifle bearing fan. 450W and 550W with two PEG connectors and a 650W and 750W with four, 5 years warranty and prices close to the 80PLUS Bronze power supplies with individual voltage regulation. Et voilà, the perfect cheap 80PLUS Gold power supply.
dream on, mate...![]()
