He means that the Ryzen CPU is pretty damn fast - even faster than annyone so far has expected...

I guessed so, but as I live under a big rock then I'd like he shared something more explicit.

Said differently, link/pic or it didn't happen!

    That's fair enough then.

Well, there's no review out I'm aware of (that big rock above): as I don't trust public leaks, I hoped you got at least some insider info/data/news.

There was a Ryzen event yesterday where all reviewers went for a presentation from AMD and that's also where they got their review sample. The benchmarks done by AMD are real benchmarks, not fake ones and all the reviewers are already testing, reviews should be published over a week.

    The 1700 processor (65w tdp 8 cores / 16 threads) is 1600 RON ( 375$ ) here on preorder.

It's a great price, but just not cheap enough for me to consider upgrading my current system, which has an FX-8320 cpu. I could probably get only about 500 RON (~120$) for my CPU and while the motherboard is high-end-ish and the memory is decent, I'd have to sell those at discount as well.

Exactly. As I expected, the official prices are pretty much 10000 CZK for this CPU. But, DDR4 is also expensive like hell which drives the upgrade much more expensive and frankly, for 97+ % tasks there is no benefit from "faster" memory, as well as from DDR2 to DDR3 and pretty much from DDR to DDR2 anyway. With frequency the latencies rise pretty much the same so the "full" actual average time of a DRAM cycle is almost the same for a decade now. But hey, insane huge numbers, it MUST be faster, no? If there were no artificial DRAM capacity addressing limits, there would pretty much be no reason to upgrade to DDR999999… at all.

So the result is, yeah, it is still way cheaper than Integrated Electronics. But that's only because they could put almost any prices they wanted on the high-end last couple years. Hopefully the trend will get reversed now. I think it will, the second-hand market will get flooded with older silicon (which is only a bit slower) soon so many ppl will grab that cheap HW over a new one, which should press the prices lower.

Definitelly no benefit in upgrading full rig any time soon, unless you really NEED the performance.
