Reality's as it is, K10 has been EoL'd so wishfull thinking won't turn back time.

TDP is 125 W same as for X6 Thubans. In reality the FX-6350 is faster both single-thread and 6t, and consumes less power than the X6 1100T.

I saw no point upgrading from Phenom II for AMD FX because they are simply not faster enough to justify an upgrade. Good thing however is I haven't spent as little money on my PC ever before when AMD was still on the same performance level. The funny thing is: For my every days work the Phenom II is still ok. Newer games however are a problem and I really wanna try out Battlefield 1. Also my old Asrock A770 Crossfire mainboard is getting 9 years old soon. It definately shows signs of age now.

Good thing is: AM4 and Ryzen are almost there. This time the update will really make a difference for the percieved speed of my PC plus I can finally try out all those new games which were published after Battlefield 3 (which is the latest AAA title which runs great).

Since I've been using the AM2+ so long I'll go directly for 8 Core CPU now, I guess. The times I upgraded my PC every year are gone for me as the last 8 year show

I already switched to Intel in my Notebook (Core i3) like 4 years ago. Actually the CPU in my notebook is faster under a lot of circumstances. Still, I kept my AM2+ system for the home rig.

Sure, even first Athlons 64 X2 3800+ are still OK for average use, and pretty much all 4core CPUs.

That old chipset explains that - had you 8x0, upgrading would be just about replacing the CPU. Even though you might not be able to reach much of an OC as me with my 890FX. OFC upgrading the whole platform for FX makes little sense. My ol' 780G board died and I got some PCIe ×4 SCSi controller so I went for 890FX as it has three PCIe ×16 slots. So I could fit the HBA in plus VGA with Accelero S1 and two NF-P12 fans, this takes 3.5 slots so the ordinary boards are not an option

I don't want it back, it's way to old.

As you can see it's not really faster, only sometimes. The power consumption also isn't lower. That's why I said that Phenom II on 32nm SOI would be better. Phenom II was 45nm with 32nm higher clocks and lower power consumption would be possible.

Bulldozer wasn't the better architecture, it was actually worse. With higher clocks it didn't looked slower, but because of that the power consumption was high.

BD was simply not about single-thread performance, and multi-thread performance is better. In BOINC anyway

Too bad most mainstream uses require strong single thread performance, which gave Intel damn near monopoly in the market.

Just bad decision, they obviously more aimed at multi-processing but the SW is still way too slow in adopting that. Even VLC hardly uses more than about 1,5 core. MPCHC is somewhat better, that can utilise 4 cores for sure so for example Athlon 5350 plays FullHD better on the four CPU cores than the integrated GPU.

Than obviously some encoding applications and compression, plus some games. That's all, years later after the BD came…that's why I bought 3GHz Phenom II X2 for laptop just last week, rather than 2.2GHz quad-core. It also has double the L2 cache per core. So overall it is not that much slower even with multi-threading applications.
