    Default Scorpio or Switch?

    Hi all,

If I have skipped over an introduction thread, my apologies. New to the forum, just saying hi.

Also been reading many articles and watching endless video of the Switch and Scorpio and thought it would be a pleasant entry topic into the forum. So, who else is excited and which one are you more excited about?

    Welcome.

Though I think most readers here are DIY PC gamers. Not console.

    Hi!

I had to google what "Scorpio" is... Apparently a 4K gaming-capable Xbox. They claim 6 teraflops on the GPU, and even though it's not an accurate method of measuring gaming performance, it is slightly above the TFLOPS value of RX 480 and GTX 1070 (which are 4K capable in AAA games) so maybe they will pull it off.

Meanwhile, isn't Nintendo Switch being made for rather casual games? I heard its processing power is more comparable to tablets rather than actual consoles.

I never had any console myself, PC gaming FTW!

But I don't life under a rock, so I knew what Scorpio meant. With 6 Tflops, it has the same raw power as Polaris 10 clocked at 1300 MHz. In the pictures you can also see that it has a 384 bit memory interface, because of the 12 memory chips. With 320GB/s bandwidth the memory should be GDDR5 clocked at 1666MHz. 320GB/s may sound a bit much compared to the 256GB/s from the RX 480, but that's because you also need memory bandwidth for the CPU. 12 memorychips also means that it most likely has 12GB of RAM which is both system RAM and video RAM.

I think they can certainly pull it off. Everything I'm hearing so far is quite positive. As for Nintendo Switch, you're correct.....completely other kind of games. The two are not in any way comparable, except for coming out in the same year. I just like the idea of being able to take the Switch anywhere with ease, but Project Scorpio is being created with VR in mind. So, yes, these are very much horses of different colors.

Fair enough. I was die hard PC before, but now enjoy my consoles too.

The question isn't about the consoles.
It's about the games you wanna play. On what console are they available?

    Switch for me.

Never heard of Scorpio before. Scorpio just sound like a PC replacement. It's hard to get excited about that for me.

Meanwhile Switch is a unique product.

If you're around LA or New York with some free-time, Nintendo has many demo events set up.

Yeah, that's good marketing for you and an interesting, unique product. It is tempting. But I think most of the games I want to play are steering me away from it.
