Default Thermaltake announces Toughpower Grand RGB PSU Series

Thermaltake, as the pioneer incorporating RGB lights into PSU, releases the New Toughpower Grand RGB Gold Series (650W/750W/850W) Fully Modular with 80 PLUS Gold Certified Power Supply Unit. Integrated with various high-quality components, Toughpower Grand RGB Gold Series is equipped with the patented 256 colors Riing 14 RGB fan, featuring five lighting modes (256 Color RGB Cycle, Solid Red, Green, Blue, White, and a LED Off mode) by pressing the RGB Lighting button and built-in memory function, covering all market segments with a wattage range from 650W to 850W for 10 years warranty. The New Toughpower Grand RGB Gold Series is now available for online ordering at Amazon USA, Newegg, Amazon Euro, Scan UK and Alternate in Germany.

The Toughpower Grand RGB Gold Series delivers excellent cooling performance thanks to the concentrated compression fan blade design of Riing 14 RGB fan; with the hydraulic bearing, silent and stable operation is provided. This fully modular line-up also adopts Smart Zero Fan to minimize undesired noise, <30mV low ripple noise design and 100% Japanese made capacitors to ensure reliability. The voltage regulation of the PSU is set to no more than ±2% for major rails to demonstrate the best performance. When it comes to the cable, its low-profile flat cable provides easier cable management to reduce clutter and increase airflow inside the chassis. All in all, the Toughpower Grand RGB Gold Series guarantees aesthetic appeal and unbeatable yet mute operation for all kinds of cases.

Interesting of Thermaltake; they seem to really only be chasing the Gold market recently. The pricing on these is also very good state-side right now. You can get the 650w for $89.

More interesting is the press release now when we had reviews (1, 2, 3) more than a month ago.

No. These aren't DPS units. There's no software interface. The RGB lighting changes with a button. That's what makes these so much more cost effective.

What's the point of these when more and more cases are hiding the psu?

That makes more sense, but the boxes and name are so similar it seems insane to have both a Toughpower Grand DPS RGB & Toughpower Grand RGB.

I know. It's stupid. But as a PSU PM, it pisses me off. I've only been a PM for Corsair for a year and one of my personal objectives is to improve ID. Yet our case PM has succeeded at putting a shroud over every PSU in every new Corsair case.

That's still like ~25 dollars more for a Astro Lite with some minor changes, Japanese caps, a fan with build in LED's and 10 years warranty.

At least in the US, there's only 1 gold 650w for less MSRP wise. EVGA's GQ650 is $84.99; actual street price isn't as attractive yet but no discounts have been applied either, nor would it need much as the gold 650w units all sit around the $79 mark.
