    Default New Transient Response Tests

    The truth is that I should have done this for quite some time now, but I had to do some coding in order to allow for the faster communication between my setup and the PC, in order to be able to collect data with a faster pace. A message from a member of this forum reminded me that it was high time to find the time to do it.

    Today somehow I left all the rest behind and finally did it. So from now besides the sluggish 200ms load repetition period (only 5 Hz), I will conduct two more sets of tests with 50 Hz and 1 KHz load repetition change. With the chromas I can go up to 20 KHz if I want, however the ATX spec only requires from 50 Hz to 10 KHz. I also increased the loads in the new tests from 10 A to 15 A (12V) and from 5A to 6A (minor rails). This means that we will see more PSU fails in these tests

    For the moment this change will be effective only in Tom's reviews.

    Great job, as always. But just remember there's a 30% maximum step size on the rated output on the minor rails . This can be an issue if you test this with PSUs with less than 20 A on each of those rails (PSU Design Guide, Section 3.2.2). Same issue happens with +12V if you go beyond 40% of its rated output (in order words, PSUs with less than 37.5 A on this rail).
