Unhappy Corsair Vengeance 550M Coil Whine

    Hello,

Based on jonnyguru review I purchased this PSU from Amazon.de but I guess it has coil whine issue.

Coil whine started 5-6 hours after building my brand new PC. I wonder if this is because it is new or coil whine is a permanent issue? It would be hard to send it back to Germany from Turkey.

Here is a video that I uploaded about Corsair Vengeance 550M PSU coil whine (coil whine noise changes as I move in a game's menu. It isn't making any noise while playing. It sometimes makes a noise during idle. Also I'm positive it isn't GPU.):

Coil whine is permanent but bound to the specific parts used: if you change mobo/cpu/gpu you may have whining changes as well (in an unpredictable manner, from disappearing to worsening).

Vengeance is usually not prone to coil whine. I'd try to return it and check out annother one of the same model. Most likely it's just a single bad unit.

    This.

BTW, to the OP: if the seller were Amazon EU, they will likely pay the cross shipping (albeit perhaps you have to bring forward the return charge) . OTOH, if it were from Marketplace, likely no.

Does't have Corsair local support in Turkey? Usually they also accept invoices from shops in foreign countries as proof of purchase.

We have Turkish staff, Turkish distributors, Turkish retailers, yes.

Perhaps it was bought from Germany because the final price was cheaper than through a Turkish one? But now, that's not looking to be such a great value proposition.

It does, I had a PSU that whined line crazy in one system, and whined only a little in another.

Well whining is changing even from game to game. It is really weird.

Anyway I just pulled the trigger for a Corsair RM550x. (From Germany, again.)

I'm hoping that I will be lucky enough this time.

If someone has something to say against RM550x please say it as soon as possible.

That's how coil whine works, I'm afraid.

Electricity causes parts to vibrate at different frequencies. Sometimes these frequencies are at an audible level.

Newer PSUs coil whine more than older ones because one of the "tricks" to making a PSU more efficient is the PWM controller's ability to change the switching frequency. Unfortunately, this makes it harder to troubleshoot if a PSU is going to make noise. In the past, a PSU either made noise or it didn't! Now-a-days, a PSU's noise can change, or go away, depending on the load.
