Especially if you plan to overclock (what I'd not recomend due to lifetime restrictions. NVidia said GPU will only last for a year @ full power! Was in an Interview with PCGH)...

Yes, Seasonic's guidance and everyone else seems to agree that two cables are recommended for powering a 1080 Ti. My only question is (and it might be a stupid question) does it matter if you use two cables that each have single-ended PCI-E connectors on the GPU side or if you use two cables that each have double-ended PCI-E connectors on the GPU side? The PCI-E cables with double-ended PCI-E connectors on the GPU side have an obvious "main" connector and a secondary connector. I'd only be using the "main" connectors.

Depends if you want to burn down your house or not.
If you want: Use one cable.
If you don't: use two cables.
And that's one of two reasons to use two cables instead of one.
The other is less voltage drop due to less current and resistance for the cables....

Thank you. I understand what you're saying, but I'm not articulating my question clearly. I am using two 8pin-to-8pin PCI-E cables. My question is this: does it matter if I use two of this kind of cable
or if I use two of this kind of cable
These are not representations of the actual cables. I'm using a Seasonic Prime PSU and the 8-pin PCI-E cables that come with it. I couldn't find exact images of these Seasonic cables. One set has an extra 8-pin dongle on the end and one set does not. I'm just asking if it matters which set I use. If I use the set with the extra dongle, the dongles would just be dangling. Is there any problem with having dangling dongles, or is this question just the stupidest thing you've ever read on this forum? If it's the latter, I promise not to bother you anymore.

Use the one with a single 8 pins PEG connector, because that looks better.

Ah, "PEG connector." I had no idea what that thing was called. Thank you. I'm using the two Seasonic cables that each have two PEG connectors on the GPU end. The two secondary PEG connectors are just sort of dangling to the side. I used those cables because they seem slightly longer, and routing is tight. I could change them out for the other ones. Maybe I will.

With the two PCie to one 8pin connector on the PSU cable you have one connector flying around in the breeze.
If that's not a problem, than no, it does not matter...

Hi to everyone, I am new to the forum.
Can anyone tell me is it safe to use 2x 6 pin pcix to 2x8 pin pcix #18 adapter with 1 pcix cable on Corsair HX1200i to connect 2 Palit extreme gtx1070 cards with 2x8pin each?
Cards will be downclocked and downvolted in software and will not, that way, pull more than 130w each.
In another machine i have reference gtx1070 with only one 8pin pcix connector and on the same PSU i use one pcix cable on 2 of thees no problems.8 cards with same PSU.
In practice i need to split 4 pcix double PEG corsair cables (4x2PEG) to 4x4PEG to connect 8 of the Palit extreme gtx1070 because those damn cards have 2x8pin instead only 1 what is in reality needed for my use case.
