Default Another what PSU should I get?

I built a comp last year, a i7-4790k and SLI 980ti's. The power supply was a EVGA 850 G2. Well the PSU died a horrible death and took out one of the 980ti's and the MB. I actually saw sparks coming off the MB and between the 980ti's backplate near the 8pins. EVGA was really cool and replaced the PSU, video card and gave me money for the MB. Putting a system back together again and sold the 980ti's and went with a GTX 1080.

Anyhow, I do not want to buy an EVGA PSU at this time....not saying I will never buy from them again as the 1080 is one of theirs, but I am kinda cold on the PSU experience.

I don't plan on doing SLI so I thing a PSU around 550w would be good.

So, what do you suggest. BTW, I am in North America.

Are you sure you weren't shorting something? LOL that sounds like something was shorting...

    Anyways.

In NA, Corsair Rm550x/i would be my first choice, unless you can wait for the Seasonic prime 600w fanless

Ruling out EVGA/Super Flower PSUs, just for peace of mind/shits and giggles, leaves you some units in about the same league (more or less):
    • Corsair RM550x
    • Corsair RM650i (same as above but with FDB fan and added Link features)
    • FSP Hydro G 650
    • Seasonic X-650

Slightly better units (all in all) are:
    • Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P11 550W
    • Seasonic Platinum Fanless 460W
    • Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W
    • Seasonic Platinum 660
    • Seasonic Prime 650

Slightly worse units (all in all) are:
    • Be Quiet Straight Power E10 500W CM
    • Cooler Master V550
    • FSP Hydro X 450
    • FSP Hydro X 550

There are more options, but those are the ones which came to mind atm.
    Best, Luca

I agree and still support EVGA as a brand as I said, just wanted to try something else. So don't see how that makes me wrong.

Anyhow, I picked up a Corsair RM650i today locally for $89 at Fry's.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
