    Default HEC is friends with Sirfa now

    So there was supposed to be a new 80+ Gold GX-S series from Cougar, brand of HEC/Compucase. Though it's not a new gold design by HEC, but just rebranded Sirfa's HPM design:

    It's the design from Rosewill Photon 550-750, SilentiumPC Supremo M1 550W, Thermaltake TR2 Gold, etc.

    HEC didn't use Sirfa before.

    It's kinda underwhelming that it's not a new gold platform by HEC, but the HPM works well.

    I would also like to see a new platform from HEC, but indeed I also think they made a good choice with Astro Lite HPM. Because Astro Lite HPM is probably dirt cheap. Many PSU's based on this design had a great price and this new Cougar is no exception. The Cougar GX-S 550W has the same price as the Corsair CX550M.

    Pictures from Cougar where you can clearly see the Astro Lite HPM design.

    Well, depends on your point of view...

    You can say that it doesn't matter who did it but rather what the unit looks like in the end. And there is nothing wrong with this unit, everything is fine or quite good. They even used Nippon Chemicon KY for the +5VSB rail - at a price that's comparable to the Super Flower HX series, hell even the cooler master G-Series is only about 2€ cheaper right now...

    So it's not a bad choice at all...

    If you want to see something new from HEC/Compucase, take a look at this thing.

    Sadly the 500W LX is about 65€, the 550W GX-S is about 5€ more -> around 70€...

    PS: can I be mean to you, Orion, and call you slow? ;-)

    Yes, I suppose you can. But it's your own fault for not sharing your Cougar review with us for so long
