Talking Tacens Radix ECO 500W internals. GOD SAVE US (Leadman)

    Hey there!

A few months ago, a friend sent me some pictures of a Tacens Radix ECO 500W, yes, Tacens, that company that, with NOX and another crappy Spanish brands, sells more in Spain than all the other brands together. (In Spain we like "todo a 100" -Idk how It's sayed in English).

I think it's funny for everyone to see the internals of this SCORIA, so, here I have!

I want to comment some things:

    - Two 200V primary capacitors, it means the PSU has not APFC. I'm wrong?
    - This Leadman is the same as this http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9336
    - My digestive system is still OK after seeing this pics, so don't worry about that.
    - I think it is this 350/200W PSU http://www.leadman.com.tw/LP-8867.pdf from the pics in the transformers

    30€. A new Gutless Wonder!

It does not have PFC but two primary caps is not always the way to identify this. In a non-PFC unit, one cap is a voltage doubler when set to 115V. However, in some high-end PSUs with PFC, two bulk caps are used in parallel to increase the capacitance.

Those heat sinks are trash looking.

Todo a 100 is a similar concept to a few stores we have in the states like Dollar Tree. We call them dollar stores, in Great Brittan they call them Pound Shops.

The idea is all the same; every item is 1 USD / GBP or below.

    It has passive PFC.

The yellow is glue. Not electrolyte.

Yeah, I know. But, if they are 200V caps, It means no APFC... I'm wrong?

We like that in Spain. Top power supplies here are:
    1. (Charger)
    2. Tacens Anima 500W (14€)
    3. NOX Urano SX 500W (30€)
    4. Tacens Mars MP700 (40€)
    5. Enermax Maxpro 700W (65€)
    6. Plug strip
    7. VS650
    8. Plug
    9. Enermax Maxcrap 600W
    10. Charger

It's the same in other stores.

Wow, another lie from Tacens. In the web they say "Active PFC". Ok...

And thanks, I thought it was electrolyte.

That giant thing that looks like a transformer is a PFC choke. That's how you know.

Not necessarily, sometimes two or more capacitors are used due to height limitations (tall capacitors may hit the fan on top)
But this power supply doesn't require a lot of capacitance (it's not a high wattage model) and it looks like there's no Active PFC circuit, I don't see inductors or diodes normally found in such circuit.
It's also an old design (maybe 70-75% efficiency), can't be bothered to estimate how much power it can actually produce.
