    Default 70€ PSU for i5+HD7970

    Dear PSU Gods,
Here's another guy who signed up only to ask stupid questions.
I lurked this Site for quite a while and learned a lot of things.

Now i need a new psu but i have no idea what wattage would be adequate for my system, i don't want to pay extra for an overkill psu, since i don't see myself using anything but upper-middle-class hardware for the next 10 years or so.

    My system:
    i5 4570
HD 7970, occasionally oc'd to 1100/1500 without overvolting
    1 HDD, 1 SSD
    Bitfenix Shinobi with 6 Fans

since PSU calculators seem to be stupid, what wattage should i go for?

i really don't want to spend more than 70€, cheaper would be even better. I have been looking into the Antec VPF and XFX TS series but if i could get longer lasting units within my budget i would choose them.

I generally buy where it's the cheapest so if you go to geizhals.de and set the region to germany you can see how units are priced here.

Can you get an FSP-branded PSU there in your area? I think a 450-500 watter may do on your rig. Any higher would definitely be too much anyway.

    550W is plenty.

Corsair Vengeance 550M is a good option, while better units are above that mark (EVGA 550 G2 / Corsair RM550x are around 85-90).

What about decent 450w units? Would they be too weak?
I'm thinking of Golden Green 450, VPF 450 or the new cx450m.

Edit: Also 550w the XFX TS Gold is only 66€ here, what's my best option?

For PSU's like the Super Flower Golden Green HX, Antec VPF, Corsair CXM (new) is 10 years probably to long. Quality of the caps and fan is probably not good enough. Vengeance has better caps, but the fan is still a sleeve bearing.

XFX TS Gold 550W has DC-DC, a dual ball bearing fan and quality caps.

    So it's like

    Decent 50€ 450w Psu
or really good 65€ 550w Psu.

Yes, for €50 you get a more then decent PSU that should last more then 5 years, but 10 years is difficult. Antec VPF, Cooler Master GM, Corsair CXM new, Corsair Vengeance, Super Flower Golden Green HX and Fractal Design Integra M for example.

But for €65 you get a pretty good PSU that shouldn't have a problem with 10 years of use, as for example the XFX TS Gold 550W.

And for €90 you get one of the best 550W PSU's out there, the Corsair RM550x.

Yeah that 10 years thing wasn't really meant to be taken serious.. I don't really want to keep hardware that long.
I don't think i'll ever need the 550w of the xfx but since it's a a step up in wattage AND quality I'll just go the 15€-extra future proof route.
