Default Looking for ~550w PSU with OTP. Seasonic SSR-550RM, Corsair RM550x, something else?

    Hello,

I'm looking for a power supply in the 550w (maybe up to 650w) range that has OTP. So far I'm down to deciding between the Seasonic 550w Gold Series and the Corsair RM550x, both of which are the same price at Newegg right now.

I'm leaning towards the Seasonic based on their track record and that in reviews, they are generally higher build quality than the CWT-made RM550x. I am a little concerned though that the Seasonic has some complaints about noise issues (whine, fan noise) and the RM550x seems to be better in this regard.

Looking for some help on choosing between these 2, or maybe some other options as well.

    Thanks!

I definitely wouldn't say the Seasonic G550 has better build quality than the RM550x; I would actually argue that the G550 is slightly lower in terms of overall quality when it comes to the components selection (transistor / mosfets, and fan) with slightly better soldering quality on average. Though the RMx units (and most of Corsair's current line-up with CWT) has good soldering quality overall. So I wouldn't even make that a concern.

Now, when it comes down to quantifiable results; the RMx is a better unit electrically in terms of performance. Like wise, it also has a better overall sound profile and a longer warranty.

The Seasonic G Series units are not awful, and do have a few advantages (like size) but at the same price point; RMx is a better value.
Corsair also has better overall customer support with Cross-ship options, faster response times, and simply a larger staff to help process claims quicker.

Trust me when I say that strong customer support can make all the difference in case anything goes wrong.

Quite the contrary: the RM550x is FAR better.
It may worth to mention that OTP on that Seasonic Gold may not work.

OW gave a very good review on the corsair rm750x version (I assume its the exact same platform)

I would also go with the corsair unit and their customer support

Cross the Seasonic off the list. If it's not on promo price (70 Euros incl. 19% VAT) it's not attractive any more.

P11 is more on the level of Corsair HXi, EVGA P2, Leadex Platinum etc. RMx and Seasonic G-Series are considerably cheaper. Still, P11 is great.
