    Curious here....

Why in the world would you contact Newegg about warranty info and not XFX? After all, after 30 days, you'll need to deal with the manufacturer regardless of brand or length of warranty. Newegg's not going to help you.

Because I am going to return it if it's a 2 year warranty. Not because of the warranty in and of itself. But because if xfx felt the need to downgrade the warranty from 5 to 2 it makes me nervous.

Anyway newegg has a restocking fee on opened merchandise. Obviously they would wave that if they advertised the wrong info.

I stand corrected, those are indeed 12KJ caps. Doesn't really inspire confidence in longevity, regardless of the actual platform performance and incoming ripple/noise to the caps...

5-year warranty on this might be suicide for XFX.
Careful what you wish for... You just might get it.

I'm just saying: XFX knows XFX's warranty. Newegg has to "look into it". You'd get a faster answer straight from the horse's mouth.

Oh yes, we already knew they use CS caps just like their old Hydance counterparts. XFX didn't try to customize here.

What we did not know was this warranty mess - Newegg (and even XFX' website briefly) clearly said that they cover it with 5 years. Now the page says 3 years, but your manual says 2? That's an even worse fuckup than their +12V rating mess, which contradicts itself.

Secondary caps are never 85c - they are far too fragile to cut their life even further, to 1/4th the length. If you look at really cheap PSUs or even gutless wonders, you'll see that even their secondary caps are rated to 105C (their brand and other specs is a whole another story).

So, yeah - the XT series was already looking similar to EVGA 400W in terms of their market segment going by the caps, components and incomplete line filter alone, but now the 2 year warranty brings them even closer together

It should still be more efficient than that EVGA though.

I think it won't be much, if any better than likes of Corsair VS, Firepower CoreXStream and other low-end.

My system is not a high end system. I3 6100, gtx 950. The evga 500b and the CX500 are constantly going on sale. I've seen them as low as $15. A/R. I decided to spend a little more because I thought this was a step up from those.

    That's why I'm returning.

    Update:

Newegg confirmed that the warranty is 3 years as it says on the XFX website. The newegg website for the unit now says 3 years.

I convinced newegg to issue a credit for $15 to keep the XFX unit. That would match the price of the evga 500B promo that I missed. So my total upfront cost comes to $35. After I get the rebate the total cost will be $15. I hope that this unit is at least worth that price.

Did I make the right decision?

The price of this PSU is very tempting, 500w version is priced at 46€, probably antec VPF is better but how it compares with, say, super flower fx bronze or EVGA 500B?

Corsair CX500 Bronze, Super Flower FX Bronze 450W, EVGA B500, be quiet! System Power 8 500W, Thermaltake Hamburg 530W and this XFX XT 500W are all quite comparable.
