When it has failed it has probably taken allot of other components with it.
So it would be an idea to replace these in the field before failure if it's an option...

Yeah... what's odd is that there's not a big price difference between those caps. Why would Dell want to cut corners there? Shame.

I don't know if it's Dell's fault, or Hipro (the maker of the PSU). It's worth noting that a lot of the newer ones we've been getting in have Lite-on built PSUs, instead of the hipros like the older ones, though some of those are still mixed in. But a shipment of 50 new 3020s saw almost all of them with Lite-on made PSUs. (You can tell from the green LED on the PSU, the hipro ones are slightly off-center, and a lighter/sicker green color. The lite-ons are perfectly centered in the hole, and have a darker green color to them.

I'm sorry the new ones are not Lite-on, they are Chicony made units. I didn't look closely enough at the first one.

Isn't Chicony a top tier manufacturer?

The one mentioned at the beginning of the thread is a HiPro built unit. The newer models are now coming with Chicony built power supplies. I don't know if they have the same problem with this capacitor as the Hipros, but I'd hope not.
