    Arrow Silverstone ST75F-GS v2 Review

It's been a little while since we last saw a Silverstone unit come to the lab, but the wait is now over. Recently, Silverstone refreshed their ST75F-GS unit by cramming the same number of jiggawatts into a housing even smaller than the previous version did. Let's find out how it performs.

I really can't understand Silverstone's policy to sacrifice performance in favour of size!!
I can't imagine what kind of pc user, would exchange the electrical performance of his system in order to have compact dimensions!!
At least, if they were successful at creating a well-performing compact PSU, i would be able to see a reason, but as it is right now, such trade-offs are unacceptable for any pc user that cares for his hardware's longevity.

For a lot of people, a unit being within the ATX specification and doing what it's supposed to do is good enough performance. And they'd be right... that's why there's a spec.

This unit isn't for us enthusiasts, it's for people who need a decent unit in a shallow housing.

Might be better to put a product with enough differences into a new line.

Are there any Sirtec/Sirfa designs out there that are anything more than mediocre? Didn't most of their units about 4 years ago mimic CWT platforms?

The Astro PT line was pretty good, Wolf did a review of the 700w as well as a cost down 850w gold version sold by Thermaltake.

Though, the Astro Gold 1200w as a little weak in comparison to the competition, it was still better than mediocre. It was mostly the ripple suppression that was the weak point. While not awful, it just trails behind what Flextronics, Seasonic & Super Flower are doing right now.

The worst offender of Sirfa designs over the past few years has been the 1600w 80+ Silver unit that they put out. It was actually rather average in most respects.
With that said, the newer Astro Gold V2 & Astro Gold Lite units have yet to show up on the market or be reviewed as High Power units. So they could be mediocre as well, time will tell on that one though.
They also have a new Overclocking Evo+ line in the works that spans 750w-1200w in the 80+ Platinum range. They're not officially out yet though, so we don't know how they will perform.

They've also got some updated Direct 12 Bronze II units coming out soon ( HPL-____BR-F14C ). Given the new model numbers they're probably new designs more than actual updates. Not too much is known about them yet either.

I think years of the old G14C units have spoiled perception of the company. This was the platform that was a low-rent copy of the CWT DSG design (Corsair's originaly HX750 & 850 as well as the Thermaltake ToughpowerXT *75w units.) There was a point in time when the market was flooded with these almost as badly as they were the Super Flower Golden Green / Golden King units a little while back. Unfortunately it was an under performing platform so it wasn't remembered fondly like SuperFlower was.

The Thermaltake DPS 850W was pretty good.

So what's the conclusion then, since at 8 out of 10 occasions Sirfa's products are mediocre?
Is Sirfa capable of producing high quality PSUs, but her contractors want the production cost to be low, thus lower quality PSUs?

Sirfa has a history of making just OK units. But recently they are making more above average units. The platinum platform mentioned above is their first fantastic-level product. I guess they want to be and truly are improving.
