Yes, it really does look like Seasonic stopped using the pair of Shottkys to boost the +12V rectification. They were still there in Aris' June XTR650 sample, but they weren't there in Tazz' sample from last month and HardOCP's today.

That's speaking about the XTR, since Tazz' last month TS650 did have them. Tazz' XTR650 and Tazz' TS650 had their serial number differing only by one (Q41004998 and Q41004999), but that doesn't necessarily mean their internals were manufactured at the same time - the TS650 could've been made before Seasonic stopped using Shottkys. The alternate scenario would say that Seasonic still uses the Shottkys for the TS (and all S12Gs?) and omits them for all new XTRs (and other modular G-clones?), but that seems unlikely since the modular units are, after all, positioned higher in the hierarchy than nonmodular ones on the same platform. I think the simple answer is that they halted the Shottkys for both S12G and G clones, and that TS650 sample was just older than that.

Seems like they are using Rubycon, Hitachi, and NCC interchangeably for the primary caps on these units. Mine has a bright blue Hitachi part.

Given so, shall we guess that current, silently introduced iteration (V3?) is of a somehow "lower build quality" than the elder V1 and V2 G-platform?

My XTR550 sample from March (or older) this year does also still have those Schottkys.

Experience tells us that most G series units are already on the edge of complying with 80Plus Gold. So I wonder how they compensated this additional loss in efficiency (if they bother about it at all).
