Default Flir One for iOS and Android

    http://flir.com/flirone/

    Only $249.

Sure, it's nowhere near the resolution of a proper FLIR camera, but for getting the temperatures of hot spots inside a PSU... you know, like explaining to someone that a busbar is an adequate heatsink for a modern day FET... you think it would be adequate?

nope with such low resolution. Better get a Flir E4 and hack it to E8. Then you might convince me about these heatsink busbars

    640 x 480 isn't enough?

FLIR ONE’s Lepton™ thermal sensor is 80x60 pixels

    to buy a 640 x 480 camera you need over 25k. My hacked E4 has 320 x 240 (so it is E8 that costs 4k).

this is an 640 x 480 IR camera for hunting ghosts etc. (I think I just seen it in the new poltergeist film).

Oh. On the specs, it says: "Visible camera: VGA (used for FLIR® MSX® blending)"

And in the FAQ, they say: "Resolution is often synonymous with image quality, but in reality, resolution is one of many factors that determine thermal image quality. The new FLIR ONE’s more powerful Lepton thermal camera has been upgraded to generate image quality equal to or better than the original in every respect. When combined with the VGA visible camera, FLIR ONE creates a crisper and clearer 640x480 image than ever before. This is achieved with FLIR’s patented two-camera MSX™ Technology, which embosses a visible image onto the thermal image without eliminating any thermal information, greatly enhancing the perceived resolution and detail of the thermal image."

So they're trying to give you the detail with "visible image" and then overlaying the thermal. Kind of like what a lot do with HDR images, except they use 3 or more images.

For $250, it's worth a shot. I'm going to expense one for work, shoot an RMi with the cover off and see what happens.

What's the advantage of this over FLIR's?

they state up to 384 x 288 however the max temperature is 100C, which is low for what you want to do. Check the Flir One V2 (when it will b available).
