    Default Preview: Silverstone Strider Gold S 550 W @HWI

    http://www.hardwareinsights.com/wp/p...lden-platform/

If anybody has more information about that labeling mess, let me know, I've been trying to get to something for hours with SS representative. But I think I am getting on somewhing with that SST-ST55F-G name and the old 2012 80 PLUS Gold certificate to reduce costs…

I've already asked Ecova if that is OK to switch platform completelly under the same name but who knows when I get the repply.

Confusing, but manageable. Yes, there was an old SST-ST55F-G made by Enhance in 2012...

...And now they used the same model number for the modern ~2015 version.

Technically the new version doesn't have the certificate, but they can reuse the old one - that's Ecova for you. And it's the Sirfa HPM platform anyway, so we already know it can do Gold, fortunately.

They probably assume that there are no more 2012 versions in circulation on the market.
Same thing goes for the 650W model.

It's even more interesting, there were also Enhance GS units, 750/850 and 1500 watt. The 750W is now replaced with Sirtecs, I guess later the others may be as well. So the G stands for Strider Gold with GS fro Gold S, those are actually two different lines…which they are mixing up now.

But the unit does not seem bad to me, component-wise. Gonna see how it behaves tomorrow, it's too late to start loading for me…

What does the picture of the serial number show?

They are probably using the Highpower cert. Or it is pending. SilverStone is by far not the worst offender of selling a unit before they have had it certified yet advertising that it is.....and SilverStone is usually pretty good at working with reviewers if you have a question. Did you ask them before posting?

Last information I know is that the contact will be asking superiors but I have been told "the 2012 certification is valid" yet I clearly see this is different HW inside the box with same codename…that's what makes me wonder.

I got a message from Ecova rep that it should have new certification.

SN is 144891550GDV1F030000763 with V2.0 next to it. Same codename but also different sticker from the original SST-ST55F-G from Enhance.

Yeah, that means it is the v2 revision which is normal for how they handle it see: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/...v2_psu_review/

The 80 Plus cert is pending then (I wouldn't be surprised if SilverStone already has the report) and will be a copy of the highpower one. You should have waited for the reply from SilverStone.

At least they have separate webpages for the different products:

    SST-ST65F-G (V1.X)

    SST-ST55F-G (v2.0)

    SST-ST65F-G (v2.0)

Yeah Ecova told me they may actually have the cert…somewhere… But than I shouldn't have been told this is cert from 2012 still valid, right. Because this High Power Platform is 6 years old, and, as I discovered, they will just copy the date so this newer SST-ST55F-G(S)/V2.0 will actually be like a certified before the older Enhance Now don't be confused And when they are getting new cert, they may have as well just kept the right codename SST-ST55F-GS as it is Gold S

If you refer to the certification date on the HPM platform 80Plus entry, then that value is wrong - it's not from 2009.

The HPM's 2009 date refers to the original Astro Gold design's certificate, which was indeed made back in 2009. For the new, modern HPM platform, High Power just copy-pasted the original Astro's certificate, hence the ancient date.

The design itself is modern; the specs were done in Q1 2014 and the production kicked off in 06-08.2014:
