Good (but somewhat scary!) find. Bookmarked. Thanks

I've added a couple of Smarts and started to measure idle power draw, that's easy. Interesting results indeed, many UPSes draw tens of watts while providing 0 on output.

And prick burreaucrats in EU are pushing stand-by power draw for ATX PSUs under 1 W. LOL

    nice!

It would be nice to check also their true ampere-hour capacity and the time needed to switch from AC to the batteries.

The isolation transformer works ok for high voltage measurements but I suggest you buy differential probs, in order to be 100% safe.

I know I know, but it is all the question of money I don't have ATM…so I started at least with this.

I can measure the transfer time now, yes. Maybe later when I will be moved in my new worskhop, with future units.

As for runtime and efficiency, that is long future when I have all the equipment to do proper reviews. For that I will need special transformer for lower and higher voltage than nominal (to test undervoltage and overvoltage reaction) - I have already asked for that, price is insane. I have toroid coil, only need the winding.

Than high artifical load, already have plans for that, I did some trials, it is difficult to cool it down on full power (about 3,5 kW). And I need professional power meter which can handle distorted output and still measure the power. Expensive device again.

Than I need high-current +12 V/+24 V/+36 V etc. mains-insulated power source so I can even measure input power for efficiency figures of the inverters (from very gross calculations, they are sometimes as poor as 60 % plus batteries have very non-linear characteristics too). Most likely I will just use huge truck batteries, they can handle high currents without massive voltage power drops.

Yeah not everything is neccessary for the beginning but at least the artifical load so I can start with how long they can work on full load from batteries etc.

Another small update, SU1000RMINET. Will be more different Smart-UPSes, but most of them in march (or later) I guess.

Uw. I've managed to finish one more, 1400VA unit, so it is now also there. Just forgot to measure no-load consumption, that will be added later today.
