Default Sharkoon Announces SilentStorm SFX Power Supply Series

Sharkoon expands its range of computer power supply units under the SilentStorm SFX brand and presents two new SFX power supply unit series with "80 PLUS Gold" and "80 PLUS Bronze" certification. They offer the highest efficiency in a compact design for powerful computers such as multimedia or mini-PCs. With the included ATX mounting frame, the power supplies can be used in standard ATX cases.

The SilentStorm SFX Gold 500W is an "80 PLUS Gold" certified SFX power supply for high demands. It offers outstanding efficiency of over 90 percent by 50 percent load and meets the strict requirements of the independent 80 PLUS Initiative "PLUG LOAD SOLUTIONS". The compact dimensions total to only 130 x 125 x 63 mm. Thanks to the modular cable system the only cables used are those needed in the PC. For the setup of modern systems there is a 500 Watt power supply with two 6+2 pin PCIe power connectors for high-performance graphics cards.

In addition to the CPU and mainboard standard connectors the SFX power supply offers four SATA, two IDE and a floppy power connector. It is compatible with Intel HASWELL CPUs. The operating noise of the power supply is effectively reduced by means of a quiet 120 mm fan and is especially suitable for lovers of Silent PCs that do not want to miss out on a powerful power supply. The SilentStorm SFX Gold 500W features over current, over temperature, over power, over voltage, under voltage and short circuit protection. The guarantee period is three years. The Sharkoon SilentStorm SFX Gold 500 Watt is available for the suggested retail price of 79.90 euros in authorized retailers.

The SilentStorm SFX Bronze is available in 350 Watt and 450 Watt. The series is "80 PLUS Bronze" certified and is best for users looking for the best price-performance. It offers outstanding efficiency of over 85 percent under 50 percent load and meets the strict requirements of the independent 80 PLUS Initiative "PLUG LOAD SOLUTIONS" for the Bronze certificate. The compact dimensions are only 130 x 125 x 63 mm (L x W x H). The Intel HASWELL compatible power supply series in the 350 Watt version provides, in addition to the standard CPU and mainboard connectors, a 6-pin PCIe connector, two SATA, two IDE and a Floppy connector.

The SilentStorm SFX Bronze 450 Watt also offers an additional SATA connector as well as a 6+2-pin PCIe connector. The internal power supply components of the SilentStorm SFX Bronze series are cooled by an effective 80 mm fan. The power supplies feature over power, over voltage, under voltage as well as short circuit protection. The guarantee period is three years. The Sharkoon SilentStorm SFX Bronze series is available for the suggested retail price of 49.99 euros in authorized retailers.

Is that Gold another Chieftec SFX-L "clone"?

Yes it's the same design from High Power. They're all High Power based.

The problem with the "SFX-L" is that you really don't save that much space over an ATX.

Also, a case made to fit an SFX PSU often doesn't have the room to fit the SFX-L.

Just seems to niche of a product.

Yes, for now it's still a niche. There are very few cases which accept SFX-L but no ATX. Maybe this might change in the future.

Also the SFX-L can be a good alternative for ATX psu if the space is really tight. Depending on the case you can get mor space for cpu cooler, drives or video cards if you choose a smaller psu. There seem to be more an more small cases for high performance hardware so small but powerful psu might be useful.

I don't have any sales numbers though, I'm just guessing.
