    I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt, but after your metric post and my 8 ft + 2 ft = 10ft (instead of 10 + 2), I am wondering what really is going on here too.

    I have one more problem I need to check the mains three pin socket. As I live in India will this socket tester from UK work :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Silve...90688#shpCntId I can use an adapter with it.

    You can't find one specifically for your mains outlet?

    I think with an appropriate adapter, it would work - assuming the UPS you bought from the UK works. Are you using the UPS through an adapter now?

    Do note that many of the better UPS already check for proper outlet wiring when you plug them in. They are not as informative as those checkers as they typically just have one simple LED to indicate a "fault" rather than tell you what is wrong like those checkers do.
