    Default Xigmatek Maverick S 500W

It's been a little while since Xigmatek sent a unit my way, but today they've provided their new Maverick S 500W unit for testing. This little guy - and I do mean little - is an 80 Plus Bronze certified unit that packs 500 watts of 50 degree heat tolerance in a housing only 125mm deep. Let's see how this unit does.

The size of this unit impressed me the most - on this shot it looks more like a toy box than a power supply.

That housing is barely deeper than the 120mm fan used to cool it. I'm actually not sure how they can build these with any speed... I had to bend the housing just to get the guts out of it.

There is a stereotype about the asians, their fingers and their skills regarding assembly. I probably would have destroyed half the psu while taking it apart.

My size isn't the main problem here. Ok, I'm 1.95 meters tall and 98 kilograms, but the real problem is my lack of skill for this kind of work. Taking apart normal psus is ok, I only killed two of almost a hundred. But the really small casings some sort of look slightly different afterwards.

An 80 Plus Bronze group regulated unit makes as much sense in 2015 as a sequel to a certain movie...

Well, 45 Euros for semi modular is a fair price. Only the Sharkoon WPM V2/Bronze are in the same price range. There's still a market for cheap modular psus.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything below 80 Plus Gold for my main pc. Eletrcity is crazy expensive here in Germany (28 euro cents per KWh).

And because 80PLUS Gold doesn't cost much more here then 80PLUS Bronze, you also don't have too.
