one other negative i found is that in the intended power usage range (~350-400 watt) the evga will run 10 to 12 C warmer than the seasonic 660 xp2 - couldn't find data on the tyacholon - does it matter ; what would you do ?
    evga 750 g2 ~ $70 after rebate
    Tachyon- 650 ~110
    seasonic 660 ~130
    --
    as of today -
lowest price ever on tachyon has been $80; seems to go on sale once a month
lowest price on seasonic 660 has been $70; seems to go on sale once every 3 months
lowest price on the evga 750 g2 (a new model) - $70 - frequently on sale for $80
    -
biggest concern about the evga - surge proteciton ; runs hot and 180mm long (tight fit)
biggest concern about the seasonic - a few complaints on doa/whine and cost
biggest concern on tachyon - a few complaints on doa (not many reviews so bad sample) and surge protection.
    -
leaning towards the evga tomorrow but could use a spare fortran 550 watt psu I have and wait for a better price on seasonic. maybe i"m to fretty on this and should just by the evga - heat thing kind of concerns me since it runs cool and @ 200-250 watt and then spikes way up @ 350

The link quest for silence provided you with shows all "80 Plus Platinum Certified" units sorted by price from low to high. Hopefully you already figured that out but if not, now is that lightbulb moment.

Well newegg has a fantastic price on the SeaSonic SS-1050XP3 ; and I would buy it (even though I don't need a 1K psu) because it is cheaper than the alternatives; alas it is 189mm long and the case can barely handle a 180mm long psu

$110 after rebate and visa checkout.

Not modular; given the case modular is 100% required
    -
professional reviews are ok on this unit; user reviews are kind of negative; mostly bad fans.
    -
I actually looked at this unit this morning when I went through all the units on sale at newegg. The modular thing is a deal beaker (not sure about hte bad reviews - would want to study more on the dates et all). I did put the rest of the system together this rmorning; not a bad case (elite 130); still waiting for memory to arrive and psu.

Man srsly don't you think you are overpicking a bit? In 14 fucking pages, tens of suggestions and not capable of picking anything?

You know what, I think that gaming console will be better option for you.

Too late; already have everything but the psu. Yea I probably should have taken the evga (even if it was a bit long). Maybe I'll get lucky and hte seasonic will go back on sale sunday o monday ?

To be honest I would go with a console if the games for them were designed for keyboard/mouse.

Well, if only quite a lot of them were not very bad ports from consoles anyway which is hell to control with KB and mouse
