    Default Work horse psu/case suggestions

I started working at a small computer repair place. They were having some problems with high DOA of the previous case psu combos.(athenatech) At the moment we are trying out the Ultra Defender series cases/psus, and have had good luck with them. Though I would like to find some other options. Thank you for your time.

Generally Case/PSU combos aren't that great in the first place. I bet Jonny can suggest a few that might be acceptable though.

    Not just Jonny!

Antec's more recent combos are generally pretty good, save for the cases that come with the SmartPower 2.0 PSUs. I've had good results with the SU lineup of Antec-branded Seasonic PSUs with the NSK4400/6500.

V-series 350W with that case iirc
The NSK4400/EA380 would cost you more unless you buy in volume
Stay away from the RaidMax and Allied combos unless you want more DOA's

I remember back in 93, I worked at computer shop replacing all the faulty psu's that came with those slim cases. Talk about a pita attaching the 4 psu power wires directly to the power button! Ever since then, I never trusted combinations except for my trusty Enlight 7232 case that came with a good Fortron or Sparkle Power 300watt psu.

I was trying to explain that to him... He has been looking at raidmax. I have around 20 pages of reviews and so forth to give him tomorrow to stop his raidmax thoughts.

Yeah, have been trying the ones with the 350W and the 400W.
Though the supplyer "D&H" has the Wizard case with a 500W V-series for cheeper than the defender. The PSU isn't like the standard 500W V-series in the pic though. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/images/product/273022.jpg

Honestly, don't use a case/psu combo. Although it may seem easier just to order them in a package, in the long run ordering them seperately will save you the hassle of the DOA's/complaints...

That picture is wrong. The PSU in the picture is the old X-Finity 500W (pre-FlexForce) that was bundled with the case two years ago. That PSU was replaced with the V-Series when the X-Finity cost went up w/ the FlexForce cables. The Wizard w/ 500W is a good deal because it's being blown out. They don't make that case any more.

I can't think of any good case/PSU combos. I think Ultra and Antec are the only two companies bundling retail grade (something you could buy off the shelf) PSU's in their cases. You might want to also look at Aopen. They used to use FSP PSU's. But even Enermax cases come with some crappy cheap thing in it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Silverstone cases come with power supplies, right?

Hutch, obviously Tank is a system builder. His clientel probably doesn't have high power requirements. It's good that he's at least asking what bundled PSU's are good instead of going out and buying a pallet of Diablotek cases with Powmax power supplies in them.

Silverstone cases don't come with PSUs.
