Oh. I knew you worked for beQuiet for a while. For some reason I thought you also worked for Cougar at one point. My bad.

The TX has OTP too. Though it isn't listed in the documentation, I've had to confirm this with engineering a while back when you were on the German forums complaining that the TX didn't have OTP and OCP. OTP is handled via the fan controller's IC and, since the TX uses DC to DC, they can use the PWM controller for +12V OCP.

    Philosophical questions indeed.

What if Corsair (to use the example above) decided for whatever reasons (meet quarterly numbers, new model coming out, etc.) it needed to close out 850W units, and sold them for $40 after rebate. Does it suddenly become a "would you trust it?"

What if HEC sent this exact PSU out to reviewers and they found it was every bit as good as the Cougar unit that HardOCP reviewed. Afterwards, if the selling price on the HEC doubled, would it magically become more trustworthy?

Speaking of reviews... I don't think HEC ever sends out these OEM units for review, but would be swell if some review site (cough) purchased one each of these (350W/550W/850W) and reviewed them. I would say especially the 350W unit, because at least it has good availability at multiple sites (TD & Newegg) and the $10AR deal at TD has been going on for over a month now.

The 550w did end up being a good unit. It was reviewed in ADATA guise over at hardwaresecrets.

Price drop on the 850W unit, AFAIK today only (8/12/13). Now $29.99 after rebate and free shipping as well.

FWIW last Tiger Direct rebate I did took 17 days on standard service. Totally not worth paying the extra couple bucks on their expedited rebate service.
