    Default HEC 350W Bronze PSU

It was free after rebate but now $10. In other hot deal threads people are treating it like a rebadged Deer, warning that it will kill your other parts and other crazy stuff.

How terrible can it really be for a low end rig? Are the naysayers merely parroting the enthusiast party line in "quality ├╝ber alles?" Are they on to something and this thing really is a 120W PSU with a high wattage label?

I tested an HEC FlexATX recently. It performed fine, even under a high-heat torture test (I put tape over the fan intake and all vent holes). HEC does make a lot of low-end crap, but they can also make a decent unit. If this one legitimately passed 80PLUS testing then it can at least do its rated wattage, which is more than you can say for any other PSUs at $10.
It's my PSU in a box!

Well, apparently it's fine, at least according to 80plus/ECOVA.

Not that their merit is unquestionable, but at least it's some indication that the PSU has at least a competent EMI/input filtering and can deliver it's labeled power. That's much, much more than other PSUs of it's price (and some even before rebate) can do.
Careful what you wish for... You just might get it.
