Default Was Xfx XXX edition 650w a good choice?

    Hello!

I just ordered an Xfx 650w xxx edition psu which is a single rail psu. After some researching i saw that multi-rail was more safe etc etc etc, but i've always heard that single rail is the sh*t. Did i make a mistake ordering the xfx psu or was it a good choice? The system it will be powering is a 2500k@stock, 7950OC, 8GB ram.

    Thanks!

Which version is it, P1-650X-NLG9/H9 or SPS-650W-3XB / P1-650X-XXB9? Both are pretty good, the former is older though and generally not good value, unless bought cheaply.

It says XFX Pro Series P1-650X-XXB9 650W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze

So i guess it's xxb9, is that the good one?

Yup, it's pretty decent. It's based on Seasonic SS-650AT, which is also used in other PSUs like eg. Corsair TX650V2.

    No worries - it's good

Huge thanks for the help, just hope I don't get the problem with high noise that some users are experiencing, but I guess all psus are failing sometimes.

Coil whine doesn't indicate failure, that's just a side effect of the electronics that is undesirable to most.

Generally it's kept in check with caulk or tighter windings on the coils but you can only do so much testing & checks before it still has to leave to get on the Boat in china and ship to your door step.

If it wines and you don't like it, setup an RMA.

The Seasonic AT platform isn't as bad about it as some other designs are.

What I've found is that it's often a combination of GPU and PSU that is noisy, likely due on the GPU end to the frequency of the VRM bits as well as input power storage.

Asus says that it's generally from the GPU and PSU switching frequencies setting up a resonance, for whatever that's worth.

Tighter windings and/or caulk definitely helps either way though.

    And Vsync sometimes does too.
