D610 is great! They fixed the shutter oil escape problem the D600 had.

Personally I am a Canon fan. Bought an 6D and I am super happy with it. The only problem is that I took the 24-105 L which doesn't offer much magnification and only afterwards I noticed the 24-70 F4 which can reach 0.7 magnification, thus would be perfect for reviews photoshooting.

Storm chasing must be really cool! I work on a mountain and most of the winter time I encounter huge storms out there! But don't have the courage to go out and take shots

It's fun, but it's also extremely expensive. I pretty much stayed within a small area this year, but even then I bet my expenses were a good $500 just for gas.

My friend has the D610... he upgraded from a D7000 this year, which has the same sensor my camera does. I've seen the difference between the two and I want that camera

All good things must come to an end. The D5100 is being semi-retired... after realizing that the rated shutter life was much lower than expected, I've decided to take it off active duty as a field camera. It's got 80k shots on a 100k shutter. Doesn't mean it's going to die any time soon, but because it's also my review camera I don't want to have a shutter failure and then have nothing to shoot review images with.

So, since I was already finding the D5100 extremely limiting when it came to what I was shooting with it, I decided not to mess around on the next one. At the same time, I do still have a budget. So, there's a factory refurb D800 now coming my way. I needed the best landscape camera I could get, and that'll definitely do the job. Lens upgrades will happen next year, as the budget allows. The D610, D750, and D810 all made very good cases for themselves but ultimately I decided the D800 was the best option for me.

The D5100 will shoot review images until it dies. Then, I'll replace the shutter myself, if I can, and shoot it some more.
