I've been known to scrounge in such things and retrieve bits of hardware -- screws, fans and such. Not terribly useful but fun to do.

Yup. He did. But for $25, watching the sales carefully, one might pick up a Corsair CX430 -- I did. That's now my PSU for the giveaway system. I'm allergic to sleeve bearing fans in PSU's.
