Seasonic S12III (3) appears... DC-DC finally?

I was navigating through the Seasonic website when I noticed... "Seasonic S12III"

The high 12V current probably implies that it's (finally) a DC-DC unit, and the list of protections seems a bit small. Also, it seems that it does no longer have 100% Japanese capacitors, as it says 'Japanese cap'.


According to the datasheet, the fan is FDB, but according to the product page and the PSU label it's a double ball bearing.

The datasheet PDF says the lowest power model will be 450W, have 420W on 12V, and 2 PEG cables. EVGA's group regulated 450W models have 420W on 12V too, so let's hope this is actually DC-DC.

S12III is a really fitting name, weird I haven't thought of it before.

Also the protections list doesn't include OTP... come on.

I'm afraid the 450 and 500W versions don't include DC-DC for the 3.3V and 5V. According to the specs it also doesn't have OCP on any rail...

Look like they run out of budget to make a new bronze platform. :confused:

Can't Seasonic just do a good, lower cost unit that can compete with the System Power (U)9 on every level and also have good protection??

Or at least something on the level of Corsair CX, CM Master Watt, BQ Pure Power...
If you can't do it yourself, just buy the low end DC-DC Plattform from FSP.
Cougar does that too from time to time... And they are also just a label from HEC/Compucase...

Does the Master watt...still have Trim pots?....That GXII Pro does. and I bumped It like an 1/8th of a turn to the left...and put in the .009a Beige Noctua U one.

Tell Johnny it's a pretty Close to a Perfection one. Sitting at 12.05v etc

Some of the old Delta's had the Trim Pot's. I'm surprised.


Well Seasonic still want's to use Chemicon….My understanding Rubycon was more mojo and descended from Audiophile anyways too Partly like Black-Gates.

Chemicon/Marcon/Toshiba was neverrrr audio designated...was general Purpose and long Life, construction. Then it was like Everyone else Nichicon/Rubycon/Panasonic/Elna that still say they have the Best Electro and some selected for Audio Purposes.
