AMD Ryzen, eventually better than Piledriver/Bulldozer/Vishera!

For the very few people (like me) who missed the news last month, the french print magazine PC Canard tested the first engineering samples of the 8 cores/16 threads AMD Ryzen CPU:

(source: TechPowerUp!)

PC Canard also affirmed to have oc'ed that AMD Ryzen ES up to 5GHz just on air.

I hope that:
  1. AMD Ryzen's future, "real" tests will be brighter than the AMD Polaris "real" tests were (after the very positive leaks, last spring/summer);
  2. AMD Ryzen will be really competitively priced (Intel do need some serious competition: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2017/...00k_ipc_review ).

That must have been a big rock. :D

For those that don't know yet, the engineering sample was one running at 3.15ghz stock, 3.3 something ghz turbo, but turbo mode may or may not have been enabled.

The stock frequency of the retail cpu is supposed to be 3.4 Ghz or 3.6 Ghz

Isn't that 5ghz overclock achieved by disabling 7 cores (or maybe it was kaby lake)?By the way don't call it ryzen, that's the name for either their strongest CPU or their 8c/16t CPUs.

Ryzen will be better than its predecessors.

Hell, it may also beat the crap out of the LGA1151 plattform, due to more cores, in games and other applications that are able to use 8 cores + SMT...

Hope it'll be of some use. It seems that my 890FX board is not a strong OCer so if ppl start selling out their FX-9xx0 CPUs or better boards while upgrading to AM4, I might get some nice HW for cheap and squeeze a bit more outta it :D

Some prices filtered.

There's an article on WCCFTech about prices, seems the cheapest 8 core starts from around $320 : http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-lineup...cores-low-320/
